Understanding Walton County Released Inmates
Release from Walton County Jail means that the local jail stay ended. It does not always mean that every form of custody or supervision ended. A person may leave on bond, after time served, under a court order, for probation, or by transfer to GDC, another jail, federal authorities, or ICE. The New World inmate inquiry may retain the earlier booking even when its current-custody marker is gone. Opening that booking is essential because the detail page can carry the actual release date.
The system that holds the next useful fact depends on the path. Walton County Sheriff's Office holds the local booking and discharge record. Walton courts explain bond and case disposition. GDC covers state-sentenced offenders, the Parole Board covers parole decisions, and DCS covers community supervision. BOP and ICE are separate federal systems. A transfer is therefore not the same event as a return to the community.
Walton County Jail Release Paths
The reason a person left controls which record answers the next question. The Walton detail view combines bond, court, charge, sentence, and release fields, so it may show more than the current list row.
| Release path | What it means | Best next source |
|---|---|---|
| Bond posted | Jail custody ends while the case remains open. | Booking detail and Walton court file |
| Time served or sentence completion | The local confinement term has been satisfied. | Release record and sentencing court |
| Probation or split sentence | Custody may give way to community supervision. | Court file and DCS when felony supervision applies |
| State transfer or parole | GDC custody or Board-supervised release governs the next stage. | GDC, Parole Board, and DCS |
| Federal or ICE transfer | Local jail release may lead to another agency's custody. | BOP or ICE locator and case contacts |
Fields in a Walton County Release Record
Georgia law requires a county sheriff to keep a jail record that includes the day of discharge and the order and court under which discharge occurred. Walton's public detail view adds useful booking, bond, charge, court, and sentence context. A public screen is helpful evidence, but a formal request is the better path when a certified or complete record is needed.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Booking Date and Release Date | The beginning and recorded end of that Walton booking. |
| Scheduled Release Date | A projection, not proof that release happened. |
| Subject and booking numbers | Identifiers that separate people and booking events. |
| Bond and bail fields | Amount, number, type, and status tied to possible bond release. |
| Disposition and sentence fields | Recorded outcome, disposition date, sentence date, and length when maintained. |
| Court, docket, and agency | The court and agencies tied to the case or charge. |
One person may have multiple bookings. Match the release date to the correct booking block rather than assuming the newest name result describes the event being researched.
Request Walton County Jail Release Records
The Sheriff's Office open-records process is the formal local route when the public inquiry is missing, unclear, or insufficient. Email is preferred because of request volume, though the office also accepts in-person and fax requests. Give enough detail to identify the right booking.
- Collect the full name, date of birth if known, booking or subject number, approximate booking date, and case number.
- Email Sergeant Lora Stamey at lstamey@co.walton.ga.us or Kirstin Stovall at kirstin.stovall@co.walton.ga.us, visit the Sheriff's Office lobby, or fax 770-267-1440.
- Ask for the booking and release date and time, release authority or order, bond or release type if maintained, and charge and disposition fields.
- Review any cost notice and the response. The office says requests receive a response within three business days.

Reports: $3; case files: $0.10 per page; research or compilation: $10 per hour after the first 15 minutes.
The published schedule also lists audio at $10 and DVDs at $20. Certified check, money order, or cash are accepted for service fees. The statewide Walton County NextRequest portal is another county-government route, but the sheriff's listed records contacts are the direct source for jail records.
Georgia Law on Walton Release Records
O.C.G.A. § 42-4-7 requires the sheriff to record people committed to the county jail, including the commitment process, charged crime, commitment date, discharge day, discharge order, and issuing court. It also makes that record subject to public-record inspection. O.C.G.A. § 50-18-71 governs inspection and copying, including the three-business-day response framework, cost notice above $25, and possible prepayment above $500.
Restricting Walton County Arrest Records
Record restriction is different from release and does not rewrite when jail custody ended. The Walton Sheriff's Administration page cites O.C.G.A. § 35-3-37 and lists a $25 non-refundable sheriff processing fee plus a separate $25 non-refundable GCIC fee for each arrest approved for restriction. Robin Bates can answer local process questions at 770-267-1456. This path concerns correction or restriction of criminal-history visibility for qualifying records, not the removal of a valid release event from every originating file.
Court disposition matters here. A dismissal, nolle prosequi, acquittal, plea, probation sentence, revocation, or completed sentence may explain what happened after arrest. The court record should be read beside the jail record before drawing conclusions.
Find a Released Walton County Inmate
Start with the custody system that held the person, then confirm the result in a second source when the distinction matters. The Walton inquiry is unusually useful because it can return prior bookings after the current-custody box is cleared.
- Open the Walton New World inmate inquiry and search the name, subject number, or booking number.
- Clear the In Custody box to include prior bookings. If using dates, remember that they filter booking dates, not release dates.
- Open the matching detail record and locate the Release Date within the correct booking block.
- Check Walton Superior or Magistrate Court for the legal outcome, or request the sheriff's release record when the screen is incomplete.
- For a state sentence, search GDC active and inactive records, then use the Parole Board and DCS if supervision may follow.
- For federal or immigration custody, use BOP or ICE. A Walton release can be only the handoff point.
The current XML roster is a current-inmate list, not a release archive. Absence from it is only a clue. The named-person workflow is broader than the site's 24-Hour Releases page, which explains how to approximate a same-day window.
GDC Search for Walton County Releases
The Georgia Department of Corrections Find an Offender query covers active and inactive state offenders. Use it when a Walton case led to state prison, not as a substitute for the county-jail release record. Search scope choices include all records, active offenders, and inactive offenders who are not currently incarcerated.
| Search field | Use |
|---|---|
| GDC ID | Best state-system identifier when known. |
| Case number | Connects the search to a state corrections case. |
| Last and first name | Broad identity search with spelling variants. |
| Gender, race, age | Narrows similar-name results. |
| Most recent institution | Helps distinguish a state placement. |
The official GDC page supplies the active and inactive scope shown below.

An inactive result can support a state-release search, but GDC directs requests for written verification to Inmate Records and Information, PO Box 1529, Forsyth, GA 31029.
Walton County Recent Release Lookup
No dedicated official 24-hour or 72-hour released-inmate feed was found. The workaround is to set a booking-date range, clear current custody, and inspect each matching detail for its Release Date. That does not create a true release-date list because the filter measures when booking began. Prior records were available during research, but Walton publishes no retention period or refresh promise for the inquiry.
The official prior-booking view illustrates the local search path.

Open a row rather than treating its presence or absence as final proof. The detail page is where Walton places the recorded Release Date.
Walton County Post-Release Supervision
A state prisoner may leave confinement on parole, while a court may sentence a person to probation or a split sentence. The State Board of Pardons and Paroles provides a TPM lookup and parolee database. A tentative parole month is not proof of release. DCS supervises many felony probationers and parolees through its Monroe Field Office at 226 Alcovy Place, Suite C-9. Its published hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and its phone is 770-267-1347.
Walton Release Alerts and Federal Checks
Georgia VINE can provide participating-agency custody status and notifications by phone, online, and mobile channels. Pair it with Walton's release detail because a VINE status change does not explain the court reason for release. BOP covers federal inmates from 1982 forward. BOP says a past date with no facility location means the person was released from BOP custody on that date, though other supervision or custody may follow. ICE's locator covers people currently in ICE custody or in CBP custody for more than 48 hours.
Walton Release Versus Current Custody
No single list spans local, state, federal, and immigration custody. Use the row that matches the agency and event.
| System | Current custody clue | Release clue |
|---|---|---|
| Walton inquiry | In Custody is Yes | Prior booking detail has a Release Date |
| Walton XML | Name appears on current list | Absence is only a clue |
| GDC | Active state record | Inactive record and state release information |
| VINE | Participating agency status | Release or transfer notification |
| BOP | Federal facility shown | Past release date with no facility |
| ICE | Current ICE or qualifying CBP custody | Confirm outside the Walton record |
Walton County Release Record Sources
The county and statewide facility map includes systems as well as physical offices because each answers a different release question. Walton County Jail and its inmate inquiry cover local custody. The XML page covers current inmates only. The Sheriff's records unit supplies formal records. GDC, the Parole Board, DCS, and Georgia VINE cover state custody, parole, community supervision, and alerts. Walton Superior and Magistrate Courts explain the case. The GBI registry is limited to qualifying registration status. BOP and ICE cover separate federal custody.

Which Walton Court Explains Release?
Walton's court path is split. The Clerk of Superior Court Criminal Division files misdemeanor and felony cases, warrants, citations, accusations, indictments, and related pleadings. Its office is at 303 S Hammond Drive, Suite 335, Monroe, and its phone is 770-267-1307. Magistrate Court handles criminal actions that include warrants and early proceedings. Its online access can show warrants issued through Magistrate Court, but the county warns that users cannot view the documents online.
That distinction matters after release. The jail record answers when custody ended. The correct court file explains bond, dismissal, plea, probation, revocation, transfer, or sentence completion. Georgia's e-access page may redirect users to a provider and require an account.
Walton County's New Jail Transition
Walton County invited the public to tour a brand-new jail and Sheriff's Office on June 28, 2025. Local reporting described the overall complex as a $140 million, 216,346-square-foot project with 870 cells and room for modular expansion. Reporting at the open house said the center was not yet occupied and that staff and inmates were expected to move gradually over four months.
This transition is relevant when an older directory address, a new campus reference, and an online record appear together. The GDC directory lists Walton County Jail at 1425 South Madison Avenue, Monroe, with phone 770-267-0887. The Sheriff's general office contact is 350 Georgia Ave. Confirm the right destination directly before an in-person visit, especially while operational locations change.
