Search Georgia DOC Releases

To find someone released through the Georgia DOC offender search, use the statewide active and inactive record scopes and confirm that the person was in state prison rather than only in Walton County Jail. State release and discharge records follow a different path from county booking history. A person can leave the Walton jail because of transfer to state custody, which is not a community release. The Georgia Department of Corrections record, Parole Board tools, and local supervision office together show the state-custody and post-release path.

Georgia DOC Release Scope

The GDC Find an Offender query covers people in Georgia's state corrections system. It is not the Walton County jail roster. Use it when a Walton County conviction led to a state-prison sentence, or when the county booking ended because the person transferred to GDC.

The query opens with a disclaimer. After acceptance, it offers name, gender, race, age, most recent institution, offense, conviction county, and record-scope fields. It also permits GDC ID or case-number searches. The crucial release choices are “Only Active Offenders,” “Only Inactive Offenders,” and both active and inactive records. Inactive means not currently incarcerated in GDC; it does not automatically mean no parole, probation, detainer, or custody elsewhere.

Walton's local inquiry remains right for bond, dismissal, time served, and other county-jail releases. Search both systems when the path is uncertain. A Walton Release Date proves the local booking ended, while a GDC record shows the state phase.

Find Inactive Georgia Offenders

Accept the GDC disclaimer, then start with exact first and last name. Choose both active and inactive when it is unclear whether release occurred. Choose inactive when the question specifically concerns a past state prisoner. Conviction County can be set to Walton, but do not depend on that filter alone. A person may have cases in several counties or a record organized around another institution or sentence.

Compare identifying details and GDC ID before selecting a record. Common names can yield several results. Search by GDC ID or case number when available. Read the status, sentence, offense, institution, and release-related information together. A photograph may appear automatically, according to the GDC disclaimer; the image is not proof of current custody or conviction by itself.

If nothing appears, broaden spelling, remove the county filter, and search active plus inactive. The person may have remained only in county custody, entered federal custody, or have a record not located by the supplied terms. The Walton released inmate guide routes each custody type to the proper system.

Verify Georgia State Release

An inactive result supports that the person is not currently incarcerated in GDC, but formal verification should use the originating agency. GDC's disclaimer directs written verification to Inmate Records and Information, PO Box 1529, Forsyth, GA 31029. Include the GDC ID, full name, and the exact status or date needing confirmation.

Next check the Parole Board's parolee database. A person can be out of prison yet under parole. For local felony supervision in Walton County, the DCS Monroe Field Office serves the Alcovy Circuit and Walton County. “Not currently incarcerated” is therefore narrower than “fully discharged.”

Use Georgia VINE for supported custody-status notifications, not as a replacement for the GDC sentence record. Use court files for the sentence and case outcome. If the county inquiry shows only that the local booking ended, check whether the end was a transfer before describing it as release to the community.

Georgia TPM Is Tentative

The State Board of Pardons and Paroles maintains an Inmate TPM explanation and lookup path. TPM means Tentative Parole Month. It is the month when the Board expects to complete final review and, if appropriate, set a parole release date. It is not a final release decision.

A TPM may depend on conduct and program completion. The Board can reconsider and change a prior decision up to release. Thus, a future TPM does not show that someone has left GDC. Confirm actual release through the later offender status, parolee record, VINE event, or agency verification.

Do not merge TPM with a Walton jail Scheduled Release Date. One concerns state parole review; the other is a local jail projection. Neither is the actual release field. The Release Date Lookup explains those separate calculations.

Georgia Sentence Release Rules

Georgia does not have one simple release percentage for every sentence. O.C.G.A. § 42-9-45 provides general parole-eligibility benchmarks and exceptions. For many felony sentences, eligibility begins after nine months or one-third of the sentence, whichever is greater. Aggregate sentences of 21 years or more can use a seven-year benchmark, subject to exceptions.

Serious violent felonies are treated more strictly. O.C.G.A. § 17-10-6.1 generally requires a first-conviction serious violent felony sentence to be served in full without parole or earned-time reduction, with a limited final-year transitional-center or work-release provision. Sentence type and statutory category must be checked before estimating a date.

County earned time under O.C.G.A. § 42-4-7 applies to qualifying county inmates, not the GDC parole calculation. Mixing the county and state rules produces misleading dates.

GDC Performance Incentive Credit

GDC's Performance Incentive Credit program can affect length of stay for eligible state offenders. GDC describes opportunities to earn credit through satisfactory progress in education, vocational work, treatment programs, work assignments, and good behavior. Points use a standardized system.

PIC is not automatic county jail good time. Eligibility may change when new information arrives, and the Parole Board may reconsider it. Program progress also does not override statutory exclusions. A public date should be treated as current agency information, not a fixed promise.

Other changes can result from Board decisions, conduct, detainers, sentence recalculation, or case developments. Check again near a projected date and seek written verification where precision matters.

Georgia Offender Record Fields

The GDC record is designed around offender, sentence, institution, offense, and status information. It differs from Walton booking history, which can show bond, bail, booking time, court date, and local Release Date. Use the GDC record to follow state incarceration and the Walton record to document the local jail event.

For a full post-release picture, combine GDC inactive status with the parolee database and DCS office where relevant. Court documents establish the sentence. The parole system establishes Board action. DCS addresses community supervision. No single public page replaces all three.

GDC Records Contact

Written verification goes to GDC Inmate Records and Information, PO Box 1529, Forsyth, Georgia 31029. Statewide information comes from GDC, not Walton jail staff. The Walton jail's directory entry does not turn it into a state prison.

Provide exact identifiers and ask a narrow question about status, release, discharge, or sentence information. When a local court record is needed, contact the Walton clerk. When the person is on community supervision, contact the Monroe DCS office. That route keeps each agency responsible for its own record.
